What plants grow best with an Oya™ watering pot?
We’ve seen the best results with:
Tomatoes, bell peppers, chilli peppers, potatoes (and most nightshades), cucumbers, salad greens, kale, herbs, edible flowers, gourds, melons, squash, beans, peas, and corn.
Plants that have fibrous roots system and an above-ground canopy work best. The more creeping the root, the better they'll be able to grow to find the Oya™ watering pot.
Can I use this to water flowers, bushes, small trees etc?
Yes! The Oya™ Watering Pot works for many plants beyond vegetables, include grass.
We have seen success with all types of plants, including taproot systems. However, surface watering is required till roots are established at around 10-14 days.
The Oya™ watering pot isn't used for sprouting or germinating seeds. Seeds and transplants need to be surface watered until the root system has developed enough to reach for the Oya™ watering pot for regular (and efficient) watering.
Do I need to remove the Oya™ Watering Pot at the end of the season?
We recommend removing the Oya™ watering pot at the end of the growing season to keep it in top shape.
Remove plant growth from the Oya™ watering pot and wash it with 10 parts water and 1 part vinegar (a stiff brush can help), then let it air dry before storing.
If you live in a climate at risk of frost, remove it from the ground before the frost and bring it indoors. Due to the porous nature of the clay, the Oya can be susceptible to cracking or shattering in freezing temperatures.
Can I plant the Oya™ Watering Pot at any time of the season?
100% Yes! Before, during or late season, your plants love water. The Oya™ Watering Pot can be easily added in between your existing plants to immediately see water and time saving benefits.
Do I need to put a lid it?
Yup! Put a lid on it.
Your Oya™ watering pot comes with a silicone lid. Use it to help keep evaporation in and critters out. It’s designed to withstand the rigours of the garden—beating sun, wet/dry conditions, etc.—and it’s bright colour won’t get lost among your lush garden.

Can I use fertilizer in an Oya Watering Pot?
If you use fertilizer, we recommend using our Oya™ Organic Fertilizer in the soil around the Oya.
As for putting fertilizer IN an Oya, most fertilizers are not 100% soluble, so this could clog the porosity of the Oya. Less water, or no water, would flow out so we don't recommend using fertilizer IN an Oya.
Do I still need to surface water my garden?
We recommend surface watering for the first couple weeks after planting your Oya™ watering pot to allow the roots to establish themselves. After that, you will only need to surface water sparingly.

I've tried few other brands and the water seems to run right thru making the plant water logged. The Growoya has done a much better job for me. Even when placed in dry dry Texas dirt it releases the water in a more controlled manner and the roots of the plants do not get drowned.

GrowOya really works! I bought 2 medium last year and didn’t use them until this year. I installed them in 2 large whisky barrels and planted 3 dahlias grown from seed in each of them. This is in Prescott, AZ, very hot and string sun. I left for a week, got back and my dahlias were alive! There was still some water at the bottom of the vessels. This is my first time growing dahlias and I killed a few due to over or under watering. With GrowOya you cannot do that, dahlias pull exactly the amount is water they need. I bought 2 more medium and 2 more small GrowOyas this year.

I've been looking for a way to make watering easier at a garden site that I only visit twice a week. I put one olla in a raised bed, and I was surprised how much water was gone when I checked it only four days later. These are wonderful. We have 3 larger raised garden beds and we have two large models in each. This helps so much to not have to worry about watering when we are gone for the weekend. We don't have the ability to run irrigation to this location, so these are a great substitute. I would highly recommend.

Takes 1-2 weeks for the soil to become naturally/fully saturated, so it's best (but not necessary) to setup your grow beds ahead of time. I am using 2 in a 4x8 and 1 per 2x4 grow bed.

I have used ollas in potted plants in the house. I like that my plants stay consistently moist and that water does not leak out the drainage holes and make a mess like in traditional watering.

These oyas allow the water to move perfectly as the plants need it. I have made ollas from terracotta pots glued together. That works… ok(ish). However this terracotta material is somehow different, it allows the transfer of water to earth and roots much more readily than the diy terracotta pot method. We now are using 5 on our extensive and rather unique raised beds. Photos to follow but I’m away from home at the moment.
